I’m Eduardo Guzman, and I’m running to be the next State Senator from Fort Smith.

My vision is a Fort Smith where state government strengthens the things that make everyday life work, keeps people here, and treats taxpayer dollars like an investment in our future.

That means using my role as a state senator to fight for infastructure Fort Smith cannot fund alone, protect access to healthcare as a core economic necessity, and build workforce pathways that let people earn a living without having to leave home.

I believe government should focus on outcomes people can see and feel, like an affordable water bill, reliable utilities, access to affordable healthcare, real job training, and public investments that pay off locally, not symbolic legislation that makes headlines but leaves Fort Smith behind.

We have an opportunity to write a new chapter for Fort Smith and for Arkansas, but it will take all of us working together. With your support, I think we can get it done.

This is what I believe in - and what I will fight for at the Statehouse.

  • Education: Cultivating the Growth Mindset

Our children are the authors of our state’s next chapter, and it is our responsibility to provide them with a pen that doesn't run dry. I believe in a "Growth Mindset" — the conviction that every student's potential is dynamic and that their future shouldn't be determined by their zip code. To honor this, we must protect the integrity of our public school system by ensuring state funding stays in the public classroom, rather than being diverted into vouchers that leave local districts behind. Furthermore, we must address the youth mental health crisis head-on; with nearly one in four Arkansas children facing anxiety or depression, we cannot expect them to succeed academically if they are struggling just to survive the day. My commitment is to a fully-funded, supportive education system that treats teachers as professionals and students as our greatest priority.

  • Jobs & the Economy: An Industrious Spirit for the 21st Century

Fort Smith was built by pioneers who leveraged the rugged terrain of the frontier to create an economic powerhouse. Today, that same industrious spirit must be met with modern opportunity. An economy that works for everyone is one where hard work actually pays off because the playing field is level. I am fighting for robust job training and "earn-while-you-learn" apprenticeships that bridge the gap for the 50% of Arkansas households currently struggling to make ends meet. By strengthening vocational partnerships between local industry and institutions like UAFS, we can ensure that when the global economy shifts, our workers aren't left behind — they are retrained for the high-tech, high-wage jobs of tomorrow.

  • Healthcare: Protecting Our Community's Well-Being

You cannot build a business, raise a family, or contribute to your community if you are crushed by medical debt or sidelined by preventable illness. Healthcare is the foundation of a stable economy and a thriving society. I am an unwavering advocate for protecting Medicaid expansion (ARHOME) and ensuring that our rural hospitals remain open and accessible. In the People’s House, I will fight to ensure that healthcare is treated as a fundamental right, not a luxury for the few. From maternal health to addiction recovery, my focus is on a system that prioritizes the dignity and health of every Arkansan, ensuring that no one is forced to choose between a doctor’s visit and their next meal.

  • Public Safety & Fiscal Responsibility: Being Our Neighbor’s Keeper

True public safety is built on community investment, not just incarceration. We see a clear misstep in the current state priorities, such as the proposed multimillion-dollar prison in Franklin County — a project that diverts massive amounts of taxpayer money away from the very problems that cause crime in the first place. I believe we are called to be our "neighbor’s keeper," and that means making fiscally responsible choices that strengthen our neighborhoods. Instead of spending hundreds of millions on new prison walls, we should be investing that capital into mental health crisis centers, better pay for local law enforcement, and community-based programs that prevent crime before it happens. My platform is rooted in a "People-First" budget that values transformation over isolation.
